Clay C. Ewell

Mr. Ewell is a co-founder of Construction Systems Group, Inc. and has over 30 years experience in engineering and construction services. His area of specialty is building envelope issues, with an emphasis upon moistureproofing analysis and design.

Mr. Ewell’s experience in the investigation, design and supervision of new and remedial building envelope moisture protection projects is widely recognized in the industry. He has managed projects throughout the Mid-Atlantic for commercial, industrial, institutional and government clients including The United States Naval Academy, National Harbor and The National Aquarium in Baltimore. Mr. Ewell’s extensive project experience includes forensic analysis, remedial design and reconstruction of various roofing systems, plaza decks, parking garage structures, masonry facades, foundation waterproofing and curtain wall assemblies.

Mr. Ewell also leads CSG’s team of highly qualified engineers with the appropriate credentials and experience for both the analysis and the clear and convincing communication of evidence required in successful construction litigation and dispute resolution. He has strong experience as a testifying/expert witness in matters involving building envelope, moisture protection, and the rehabilitation of existing structures. Numerous law firms and building owners in Maryland, Virginia, Washington DC and Delaware have benefited from his thorough and technically sound analysis of issues in these areas.

Thomas J. Curley

Thomas J. Curley - Construction Management in McLean, VA

Mr. Curley is a co-founder of Construction Systems Group, Inc. and has over 35 years of experience in engineering and construction services. He has managed over $100 million dollars in new and rehabilitative construction projects.

Mr. Curley brings technical expertise and management experience to every project, with a commitment to ensuring quality results and meeting budget and time parameters. He prepares pre-construction design evaluations, project analysis and budgets. Additionally, Mr. Curley manages CSG’s comprehensive evaluation process, including review of designs for various building elements and systems, as well as construction techniques for proper integration. Mr. Curley has extensive experience in value engineering and analysis, and manages CSG professionals in performing this process throughout new construction projects.

Mr. Curley oversees CSG’s design evaluation, project planning, estimating, scheduling, bidding, contracting and finance. Working closely with CSG team members, he is actively involved in each phase of the project from concept through warranty period, overseeing contractor completion schedules and compliance with contractual documents, and maintaining control of the cost of construction. In addition, he monitors construction activity and progress, and provides tailored progress reports to clients.

Wayne F. Hosking

Wayne F. Hosking - Building Envelope Consultation in McLean, VA

Mr. Hosking has more than 25 years-experience in the engineering and construction field.

His work involves the coordination of engineering projects from pre-design through construction and final acceptance. His practice includes an array of commercial development, repositioning, preservation and capital maintenance projects. In this role Mr. Hosking maintains a strong communication link between his clientele, his staff, design team and project engineers.

Prior to joining CSG Mr. Hosking served as a Vice President of The Allied Defense Group, Inc. where he ran the corporate strategy and merger and acquisition shop for this publicly traded holding company. Mr. Hosking held this position until finalizing the sales of each of the company’s globally distributed assets.

Prior to joining The Allied Defense Group Mr. Hosking worked for two different engineering and construction firms. His engineering and construction work included commercial development and infrastructure projects as well as industrial, power, and natural resources.



Richard B. Allen, Jr., P.E.

Richard B. Allen Jr. - Renovation and Restoration in McLean, VA

Mr. Allen joined CSG in May, 2001 as a project engineer and certified expert in the design, detailing, implementation and construction of masonry structures and veneers. Mr. Allen works with clients on a variety of projects from restoration to new construction, focusing upon issues relating to the building envelope such as rehabilitation/restoration of waterproofing systems, concrete, EIFS, masonry facades, window systems and sealants. In addition, Mr. Allen performs field investigations, produces remedial design documents, and provides construction management services. He has also served as an expert witness on masonry issues in several litigation cases.

Prior to joining CSG, Mr. Allen performed forensic engineering investigations, analysis and modeling related to types and causes of masonry failures and repairs for the Brick Industry Association. In March, 2001 Mr. Allen served as a member of The Masonry Society Disaster Inspection Team for the Nisqually Earthquake. He also inspected and reported on seismic masonry design philosophies in the Seattle, Tacoma, and Olympia, Washington areas.

Mr. Allen is the author of several articles on masonry systems which have appeared in Brick News and The Reporter. He is also the co-author of the award winning paper published in The Masonry Society Journal entitled, “Proposed Provisions for Design of Anchorage to Masonry.”

Neil A. Umayam, P.E., CBECxP

Neil A. Umayam

Mr. Umayam joined Construction Systems Group, Inc. in May, 2004. He is a Professional Engineer with over fifteen years of experience, specializing in the restoration and repair of the building envelope. During his tenure at CSG, Mr. Umayam has performed surveys of building envelope components and written comprehensive design packages for a variety of roofing systems including conventional and IRMA modified bitumen roofs, hot-applied rubberized asphalt PRMA systems; built-up roofing systems; mechanically fastened, ballasted and fully-adhered single-ply roofing systems, and sloped roofing systems; including metal, slate and shingles. Mr. Umayam has also served as Senior Project Engineer for several high-profile, new construction projects. In addition, he performs investigations and designs for repairs to building facades and waterproofing systems, rehabilitation of concrete parking garages and balconies, and replacement of doors and windows.

Mr. Umayam has been involved in many roofing projects including the roof replacement of the Lincoln and Jefferson Memorials and the GSA Headquarters. He has also conducted façade surveys at several local landmarks, including the United States Department of Agriculture Building and the United States Tax Court. He is a recognized expert witness for roofing, façade and other moistureproofing issues in Fairfax and Loudoun County, Virginia, Montgomery County, Maryland, and the District of Columbia. In addition, Mr. Umayam is a recognized hail and storm damage inspector/umpire for numerous insurance companies.

Patrick J. Murphy, P.E.

Mr. Murphy joined CSG in January, 2003. As a project engineer with over ten years of experience in project management and construction supervision, Mr. Murphy has performed numerous investigations related to moisture infiltration issues and executed the remediation on both commercial and residential buildings. In addition, he has implemented successful strategies to prevent such issues while overseeing several new construction projects. Mr. Murphy has also investigated, designed, and managed projects associated with repair or replacement of plaza waterproofing and roofing systems, façade and window moisture-proofing systems, masonry, and structural elements.

Prior to joining CSG, Mr. Murphy worked with a large, local general contracting firm, serving in both project management and field supervision capacities for interior build-out projects. These projects required the coordination of various electrical, mechanical, telecommunications, and specialty finish trades in interior fit outs. Projects included the headquarters of the American Red Cross, various government facilities, and the office spaces of several prominent area law firms.

Michael E. Chadwell, P.E.

Michael E. Chadwell

Mr. Chadwell joined Construction Systems Group, Inc. (CSG) in May, 2003. A professional engineer with over twenty five years experience in engineering and construction services, Mr. Chadwell’s area of expertise is in comprehensive structural rehabilitation and repair projects, and in moisture protection. Additionally, Mr. Chadwell has extensive experience in remedial design work, particularly related to concrete, steel and timber structures, masonry restoration, window systems and sealants, and asphalt and concrete paving systems. Mr. Chadwell regularly performs field investigations and technical analysis, developing and delivering reports and presentations to clients regarding facility conditions and restoration requirements.

Mr. Chadwell is CSG’s specialist on international and national building code requirements, as well as local county and state requirements (critical structures programs) regarding construction. This knowledge greatly enhances his technical analysis and remedial design work. Mr. Chadwell has also provided successful expert witness testimony on several local projects.

Mr. Miller joined Construction Systems Group, Inc., in August, 2007. Robert M. Reed

Mr. Reed joined CSG in June of 2014. As a Project Engineer, Mr. Reed has gained a broad range of both technical and field experience in new construction and rehabilitation projects. Robert works closely with upper level Senior Project Engineers and Project Managers in all aspects of our business to include investigations, design, and construction observations for the rehabilitation of facades, parking garages, roofs and below-grade waterproofing. He has also performed quality assurance for new construction projects, including field testing for air and water penetration and construction observations.

Michael W. Brogan, RRO

Michael W. Brogan

Mr. Brogan joined Construction Systems Group, Inc. (CSG) in 2008. With over twenty-five years of experience in the roofing industry, Mr. Brogan has performed numerous inspections, installations and applications of various roofing systems on both residential and commercial properties,  ncluding built-up roofs, modified bitumen, single-ply systems (PVC, TPO, EPDM, CSPE, etc.), asphalt shingles, rubberized asphalt and metal  roofing. During his tenure with CSG, Mr. Brogan has performed forensic investigations, developed reports, specification and contract documents and plans and details for competitive bidding. He provides construction management and contract compliance inspections for numerous clients and  projects.

Since 1995, Mr. Brogan has expanded his expertise in roofing systems, facades (masonry, through-wall flashings, sealants, etc.), and bituminous concrete, as well as with their associated components. This well-rounded construction experience allows Mr. Brogan to assist clients in addressing complex concerns with building envelope moisture-proofing systems, and performing detailed evaluations, inspections and project management services.
